Discover the joy of playing cello
Cello lessons in Seattle that build confidence, creativity & authentic self-expression
Cello lessons with heart
Music is about connection — to ourselves, to nature, to our families, friends, and community. It’s an essential part of who we are.
Beyond the notes, music study in childhood builds real-world relationships and skills: Confidence, leadership, and teamwork. Creativity, self-expression, and resilience. You want something meaningful and growth-oriented for your child — a creative pursuit that strengthens confidence and family bonds.
Or maybe you’re an adult learner who set aside music for years — and now it’s time to rekindle your creative spark. You crave joy and connection in an increasingly disconnected world.
Music study enriches our minds and hearts by building focus, patience, and artistic expression.
Whether you or your child are brand new to music, you’re starting cello a little later, or you simply need a teacher who can balance structure, creativity, and compassion, you’re in the right place.
Why work with me?
My passion is teaching people to do the things I love to do — and I love playing the cello! I’m deeply invested in your learning and in unleashing your creativity and confidence. My mission is for all my students to feel seen, heard, and valued, and my students not only make steady progress — they have fun. They’re free to experiment with sound and discover their own musical voice. My teaching goes beyond traditional instruction. I bring together:
Suzuki-registered skill-building for a solid technical foundation.
Improvisation practices that unlock creativity, confidence, and ease.
You’ll feel right at home in my studio, nestled in a delightful backyard garden in North Seattle. Every lesson is designed to meet each student where they are by combining compassionate teaching, clear technique, purposeful practice habits, and accessible improvisation exercises that make learning engaging and fun. For students under 18, parents are active partners in the process and gain tools to support their child’s musical growth at home.
My lessons are tailored to your unique needs, with the goal of cultivating lifelong musicians who play with joy.

Your Teacher
Hi, I’m Heather! Cellist, writer, composer, mother, Suzuki cello teacher, and Certified Music Improvisation Teacher based in Seattle’s Ballard/Greenwood neighborhood.
I know firsthand the value of music to transform lives. After years working in language education and the literary arts, I felt my musical roots calling to me. I craved the joy and spark that music always brought to my life. Now I help others discover an authentic connection to their musical selves.
My approach blends Suzuki philosophy, experiential learning, and music improvisation to empower students to build strong technique while cultivating self-compassion and creative confidence. I believe that every student can learn to play beautifully in an encouraging environment that honors their pace and personality.
If you’re ready to start private lessons for cello or learn improvisation on any instrument, I invite you to contact me. I look forward to speaking with you!

I enjoy working with students of all ages — children, teens, and adults, from beginners to intermediate players.
For students under age 18, parents must attend all lessons, too — it’s part of the Suzuki method.
No matter your age or playing level, it’s never too late to focus on the foundational skills that all players need and that make playing your instrument so much easier and more enjoyable.

The Suzuki method teaches music the way children learn language: through listening, repetition, and encouragement. It’s a nurturing, family-centered approach that helps students build confidence and skill.
